Emily Brontë’s time in Calderdale remains one of the most intriguing chapters of her life. In 1838-9, she lived at Law Hill, Southowram while working as a schoolmistress. Could Jack Sharp, the builder of Law Hill, have inspired Heathcliff? Was High Sunderland Hall the true architectural muse for Wuthering Heights? And might Shibden Hall in Halifax have been referenced under another name? David Glover delves into these questions and more, sharing little-known yet captivating tales of Emily Brontë’s local connections.
