History Talk: Along the Route from Dean Clough to Holdsworth in Old Photos
On Tuesday 7th July 2026, let Calderdale's popular historian David Glover take you on a photographic journey discovering the old route towards Illingworth behind Dean Clough in Halifax....
Through old photographs, you'll travel together along narrow Old Lane to Keighley Road and remember two lost wooden bridges. On route, you'll learn about where John Mackintosh lived in his youth, the Mills of Standevens at Ladyship, and the lost Ovenden Railway.
You'll continue past a former pub where Branwell Bronte once lodged, turn up Shay Lane, considering lost chapels and pubs, and meet the missing railway again near Holmfield.
Finally you'll reach Holdsworth, which gave birth to a notorious murderer of 1858, whose crimes will be revealed!
